I know we've probably discussed it |

Now I just want to ask you guys what you think about this topic.
Where do you stand?
The religious side of things.
Or do you believe in evolution and all that?
I go with the second one.
But, then again, the simple fact is that there is no right way or wrong wway to go, and if you think you can prove something using words from other people you must remember everything you find is opinionated and everyone has their own mind and thoughts.
So where do you stand?
and back up your thoughts.
(yeah, pretty much to make a good discussion up on here, so lets gogogo)

I favor towards evolution myself, we can actually test that. Religion, not so much. Intelligent design is essentially for someone who simply can't make up their damn mind.
Though I do find the idea of omniscient beings and an afterlife to be interesting. But thats going on a different tangent entirely.

True, let's save that for another topic for another day.
Keep something going..
But yeah. What you said is true for the most part. A very religious person would use the bible as some sort of reference, but honestly I just don't see that as being something that can actually be true, for we cannot really prove that the bible is true and not just made up things to give morals to the people.

well, multiple events in the bible were true, there WAS a Moses, the WAS a rebellion in egypt among the slaves(only half the workforce building the pyramids were slaves btw.), the WAS a great flood(of a sort, it was the creation of the Red Sea, but as far as the people living in that valley knew, the world had flooded), and there was A Jesus Christ, whos gospels claimed he was the son of god and eventually WAS crucified with his body being stored within Golgotha(dp?).
It's all the other details that raise issues, rising from the dead, raising an army from the dead, healing the sick yadda yadda exorcism yadda yadda pillar of salt yadda yadda reborn as a piece of toast yadda yadda. That said, I've always found the christian/jewish/islamic god to be kinda boring really, kinda full of himself and detached, even though we're supposed to made in his image.
Look at the Norse gods, you have a myth where Thor is posed a contest by a group of giants, they set him a number of tasks. The first is to empty a drinking horn, its massive, but no matter how much he drinks from it, it never lowers more than an inch. The second is that Thor must defeat an old woman in combat, he gets his ass handed to him. the last is that Thor must lift a housecat, mind you, its a housecat to the giants proportions and he only manages to lift a paw. The giants tell him afterwards that what he managed to do was amazing, the horn was actually the ocean itself, the old woman was age itself/death and that he sorta managed to last as long as he did was amazing, the cat was in actuality the midgard serpent, a massive snake like creature that actually encircles the entire planet.
Look at Greek mythology, here's Zeus' problem solving technique:
1. Throw lightning at it
2. Chain it down to be eaten by condors
3. Lock it into a pit beneath the sea
if these all fail:
Turn into an animal and have sex with it

evolution makes the most sense to me, though that still leads to were did it come from. Evolution has the most backup(in comparison to christianity, bible says we dont need proof of God because its all around us.)while we have proof that we share common ancestors with several animals.

Here’s my resumé of it all: you’re stupid. Not you in particular, but still. We’re all stupid. Logic will be the end of us but I also like to eat bananas, whatever the hell one of those are.

I believe in my religion, Christianity, for the fact that the bible shows us how to solve SOME of our problems in our everyday lives(though, not ACTUALLY showing your life, but representing it with another event.)And, in my opinion, science(including evolution) does not solve everything....I think my answer is off-topic(lol).....

So you don’t believe in evolution just because it doesn’t solve all of your life problems? Wow.
Once again, I relate life to pickles.

I honestly consider religion to be a waste of time for a huge number of reasons: it's manmade, it's boring, it's useless, it's tyrannical, it imprisons young minds, it influences people to do terrible things they wouldn't do otherwise, it stops us from progressing as a society, etc.
How I could go on for such a long time on how much I despise religion.

It depends how you use it. My aunt is a really good person mostly because of her religious beliefs. Don't be one of those annoying fucking atheists though please.

I only express my views if people ask me, which was the purpose of this thread.
Don't forget, however, people can have morals without religion. In fact, many of religions moral teachings today would be considered extremely immoral in today's society. We don't stone gays, or sell our daughters into prostitution, or the condemnation of someone for their honest opinion to eternal torture.
Now therefore, kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman who has known man by lying with him. But all the young girls who have not known man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.
Any moral person today would be repulsed by this statement. Alas, it was spoken by the good Moses! The Bible is full of moral atrocities like this, both Old and New Testament. Other books, like the Koran or the several Hindu books or Confucius' books, or Zen books, all are windows into the philosophy of their time, but not ours.
Out of curiosity, why are atheists annoying? Because we have a strong opinion just like the religious people?
As as far as your aunt, it's great she derives joy from religion and that is shapes her personality, I just would never let it take over myself.

No, I meant don't be one of those annoying atheists who yell at anyone who believes in god. Same goes to religious people who don't respect others beliefs.
