some of you may recall from the fromer C404 forum that I enjoy painting miniatures (for tabletop games mostly) and I decided to make this topic for anyone to just show off whatever artistic creations may come to mind and get some feedback about them and whatnot.

feel free to post! I dont mind sitting here just talking to myself, but you must understand, I do appreciate a response Very Happy

well, for those of you who may have heard of it, the first figurine I have here is from a tabletop game called "Battletech" (if you've ever heard of mechwarrior or mech assault, this is essentially their father), it's a sci-fi series and I won't get too much into detail about the series itself, you have wikipiedia for that Razz

This is a Zeus, an eighty ton inner-sphere battlemech (the inner-sphere is the colonized region of space that radiates out from terra, aka. earth), I actually took pics of this one step by step and have a scale shot so you have an idea of the figurine's size, hope you like it Very Happy

this first shot here is of the basecoat, sorry about the crap lighting, my flash wasn't working

here we have the second shot, got my flash working, this is after I applied a black wash to the figure (for the uninformed, a wash is a watered down mixture of paint and water that has about the consistency of runny ink, the wash is applied to the entire figurine and depending on the thickness of the wash, it'll sink down into all the small details of the figure[like the scaling on the torso] and and makes for a great accent on any figure with a lighter basecoat)

the size shot, thats an inch ruler btw

after the wash dried I drybrushed the figure grey to give it a more worn look(again for the uninformed, a drybrush is when you take the brush and load it up with a bunch of paint, you then wipe off the paint until it barely shows on the brush then flick the tip of the brush across the figure, as you do this the little paint that is left in the brush will collect along the hard edges of the figure, it adds depth to the entire figure and works best on figures with a dark basecoat but as we see here, also can work well with a lighter basecoat)

and here we have the finished figurine, a light goldbrushing was added to the entire of the figure for effect as well as a gold trim and green paneling

thanks man Very Happy

I'm only semi decent, by going with a semi battered appearance on my figures I cover up any mistakes that I might make

posting another figure, this on is a 100 ton clan Daishi(the clans are the descendants of soldiers who were led out of inner sphere into the periphery[an uninhabited region of space on the edge of the inner sphere] when the Star League collapsed[the star league was essentially the ruling body during the golden age of the inner sphere, when it collapsed the inner sphere turned upon itself and was set back technologically a few thousand years with civil war. general of the star league military Aleksander Krensky led the bulk of the star league military force out of the inner sphere to form a colony far from the chaos] they eventually returned to the inner sphere with vastly advanced technology and a desire to conquer)

well, today I just started work of a figure with a C404 themed paintjob, sort of an "in honor of your rebirth" thing for the forum

they look huge because the figure are small Razz

well, I've got two new paintjobs for you today, both clan, one assault class and one heavy (all mech and vehicles in the game are sorted into four weight classes; 100-80 tons is assault class[titans of the battlefield such as Daishi or Atlas], 75-60 tons is heavy class[heavy duty workhorses such as Timberwolf or Dragon typically piloted by officers or veterans], 55-40 is medium[the most common weight class included mechs like Nobori-nin or Enforcer], and 35 and under are light[mechs only go as low as 20 tons, includeds mechs such as Cougar or Spider])

this is an eighty ton clan Gargoyle or Man O' War to the inner sphere

a sixty-five ton clan Hellbringer or Loki

here they are together, the Gargoyle figurine is about an eighth of an inch taller(or 0.5 cm)
