Voting Purpose |
|
Alright I just saw a little news headline thing on my homepage saying "Will Obama win the white vote?" or something along those lines. Which lead me to thinking "who the fuck cares?" I mean seriously the popular vote means jack shit. So why do people even bother to vote when the electoral college picks who wins? To me it seems as if it is like this so the government can still choose who they want, while also pleasing people by making them think they have "power". In summary why do people vote?

Jord, Redwards wasn't asking you about your opinions about the candidates. He was asking all of us why people vote in the first place if they know (or don't) that their votes don't mean much.
In response to you anyway though;
1. He tries to make the whites feel racist for not voting for him? White people who aren't voting for Obama because he's black don't give a shit about racism. Either they don't care if they're racist or they know it already and again, don't care. The white people who aren't racist and aren't voting for Obama for other reasons - only an idiot would feel racist if they're not voting for him for a genuine reason - they already know they're not voting for him for, say, his stance on off-shore drilling rather than his race.
2. What does living in Canada have anything to do with voting for him?
And Jord, I highly, highly doubt you're even old enough to vote.
To answer Redwards' question, it's simple - you answered your own question. People like the feeling of having power. And many people are even uninformed how little their votes count. They either don't know it or don't want to believe. They want to believe they live in a pure democracy.
It's a common element in people: to shield their eyes from the truth they already know it's right, and then deny it.

I am too lazy to explain it. It is pretty much a much of people from each state who choose who wins in their state. Each state has its own points towards who wins the election. I still can't believe how ignorant people are about the whole matter though. There are still things like "vote or die" and stuff that make people think they have power and not to mention retarded movies like "swing vote"

Okay, so I don’t live in the U.S. or anything but I understood the the state was won by the president who had the most votes there, so they do have power. Their votes choose who the state goes for.

The most electoral votes maybe the peoples vote no. The only thing we sorta have a choice in is the primaries and it isn't even fully determined by us.

allow me, if you will, to explain the U.S. voting system:
People go to vote, the votes are tallied, state representatives are notified of the results, state representatives then inform the electoral college(don't ask why they call it that, it's an extensive explanation) of their decision(yes, the representative can in fact choose something other than what the people voted for, though they'd be insane to do so), the candidate then wins the electoral votes from that state(the number being primarily dependent on population), the candidate with the most electoral votes once all states have been tallied is the winner and will be the country's new president once he/she has gone through inauguration
any questions?

Yep. I was going to watch it because Kelsey Grammar was in the movie, but screw it. After seeing the trailer for Beverly Hills Chihuahua, and seeing movies like "College Road Trip", I will not be watching any Disney movies again, unless Pixar has a role in it.

the voting system is very flawed. the only thing our votes count for is local government. they feel most people are too uneducated to make a vote; thus the creation of the electoral college who deside for us and use the popular vote "guidelines"

Yeah, that’s what I thought, minus the part that the electoral college can actually pick whoever they want. So now I know. That’s fucked up.
